Nakshatra Dosha: A Simple Guide

Some nakshatras (lunar constellations) have certain doshas (flaws or negative effects) that can cause bad results for the person born under them, as well as for their family. People born under nakshatra doshas are sometimes blamed for causing problems to their entire family, including their parents, siblings, or relatives. However, it's important to remember that not the whole nakshatra is affected, but rather specific padas (quarters) of the nakshatra.

What is Nakshatra Pada Dosha?

A nakshatra is divided into four parts, called padas or charans. Each nakshatra covers a total of 13°20', and each pada is about 3°20'. Only specific padas have doshas, and these doshas can have different effects on the native and their family.

Nakshatras with Severe Doshas in All Padas

  • Purvashaada, Hasta, and Pushya Nakshatras: All four padas of these nakshatras have severe doshas. Below are the specific effects for each nakshatra.

Purvashaada Nakshatra Dosha

  • 1st Pada: Causes danger to the mother.
  • 2nd Pada: Causes danger to the father.
  • 3rd Pada: Causes harm to the maternal uncle.
  • 4th Pada: Can lead to premature death.

Hasta Nakshatra Dosha

  • 1st Pada: Causes harm to the father.
  • 2nd Pada: Causes harm to the maternal uncle.
  • 3rd Pada: Causes problems for the native themselves.
  • 4th Pada: Causes harm to the mother.

Pushya Nakshatra Dosha

  • 1st Pada: Causes problems for the native.
  • 2nd Pada: Causes harm to the mother.
  • 3rd Pada: Causes harm to the father.
  • 4th Pada: Causes harm to the maternal uncle.

In some cases, if the pada is divided further and the native is born in a specific part of the degree, it may lead to severe consequences, including premature death.

Other Nakshatras with Malefic Effects

  • Uttara Phalguni (1st Pada), Ashlesha (3rd Pada), Chitra (4th Pada), Revathy (3rd Pada), and Krithika (2nd & 3rd Pada): These can cause severe effects to the father, and if the native is a girl, the mother may face difficulties.

Moola Nakshatra Dosha

  • 1st Pada: Causes the immediate death of the father, though the native may be wealthy and successful.
  • 2nd Pada: Causes harm to the mother.
  • 3rd Pada: Destroys ancestral property.
  • 4th Pada: Leads to a successful and happy life.

Ashlesha Nakshatra Dosha

  • 4th Pada: Causes severe dosha to the father.
  • 3rd Pada: Causes harm to the mother.
  • 2nd Pada: Causes financial loss.
  • 1st Pada: No harmful effects.

Jyestha Nakshatra Dosha

  • 1st Pada: Generally good for the native.
  • 2nd Pada: Causes harm to younger siblings.
  • 3rd Pada: Causes harm to the father.
  • 4th Pada: Affects the native negatively.

Gandanta Dosha

Gandanta dosha occurs when someone is born at the junction between two nakshatras:

  • Revathy (last pada) and Ashwani (first pada)
  • Ashlesha (last pada) and Jyestha (first pada)
  • Magha (last pada) and Moola (first pada)

A native born during these periods is likely to face severe challenges, including the possibility of dying young.

Timing of Dosha Effects

  • Jyestha: Malefic effects may be seen within 15 days.
  • Uttara Ashada: Effects may appear within 2-3 months.
  • Chitra: Within 6 months.
  • Ashlesha: Within 3-9 months.
  • Purva Ashada: Within 8 months.
  • Pushya: Within 3 months.
  • Magha and Moola: Effects from birth until 8 years of age.
  • Hasta: Effects within 12 years of birth.

However, if other planetary placements in the native's horoscope promise a long life (Purnayu), the severity of the dosha effects may be reduced. Therefore, it's important to consider the entire horoscope for a full understanding of the nakshatra dosha's impact.
